Offshore 3D Laser Scanning & E3D Modeling – Central Africa

Offshore 3D Laser Scanning & E3D Modeling – Central Africa

(01)

Offshore assets often undergo numerous modifications throughout their operational life, making accurate documentation critical for safe operations, maintenance, and long-term planning. However, many legacy platforms operate without updated drawings or reliable 3D models, creating operational risks and engineering challenges.

Introduction

SixD Engineering recently completed a complex offshore project in the Central Africa region (Guinea) involving an aging wellhead platform. The client lacked updated engineering documentation, and multiple undocumented piping modifications over the years had created uncertainty for maintenance, fabrication, and operational planning.

Through advanced 3D laser scanning and intelligent E3D modeling, our team successfully transformed the facility into a precise, engineering-ready digital asset.

Project Challenge

The offshore wellhead platform had experienced several piping changes and routing adjustments over time. Unfortunately, these modifications were never formally documented.

As a result, the client faced several critical issues:

  • Absence of updated engineering drawings

  • No reliable 3D models of the platform

  • Increased risks during maintenance and modification activities

  • Difficulty planning fabrication and operational upgrades

Without accurate engineering data, ensuring safe and efficient operations was becoming increasingly difficult.

Engineering Approach

To resolve these challenges, SixD Engineering implemented a structured digital engineering workflow combining high-resolution laser scanning with intelligent 3D modeling.

This approach enabled the accurate capture of real-world conditions and the creation of a detailed digital representation of the platform.
