Offshore assets often undergo decades of modifications, making accurate documentation essential for safe operations, maintenance, and future decommissioning. In many cases, however, legacy platforms operate without updated engineering drawings or digital models.

SixD Engineering recently completed a complex offshore project in the Central Africa region (Guinea), where an aging wellhead platform lacked reliable as-built documentation. Through advanced 3D laser scanning and intelligent modeling, our team successfully transformed the facility into a fully digitized engineering asset.

SixD Engineering recently completed a complex offshore project in the Central Africa region (Guinea), where an aging wellhead platform lacked reliable as-built documentation. Through advanced 3D laser scanning and intelligent modeling, our team successfully transformed the facility into a fully digitized engineering asset.

The offshore wellhead platform had experienced numerous piping modifications and routing changes over the years. Unfortunately, these alterations were never formally documented.

As a result, the client faced several critical challenges:

  • Increased risks for future fabrication and dismantling activities

Scope of Work

Our team executed the following key activities:

3D Laser Scanning of the complete offshore wellhead platform
Point Cloud Processing and Registration to create an accurate spatial dataset
Intelligent 3D Modeling (E3D) developed directly from scan data
Generation of Isometric Drawings for piping systems
Preparation of Bill of Materials (BOM) for fabrication planning
Creation of a Structured Digital Asset Database for engineering reference

This workflow ensured the platform’s current configuration was captured with high accuracy and converted into usable engineering deliverables.
